Help make them a little stronger today than they were yesterday..
..and don't let looking back slow down their forward momentum
My childhood was tough.
Life at home was unstable, to put it politely.
Whenever there were brief moments of peace or happiness, deep inside, my body-clock was busy counting down knowing the next explosion or fight or flashpoint between my parents was only a matter of days away.
Conflict. Attempted suicides. Violence against me.
Countless interventions from family, friends and family doctors ended with the interventionist giving up and leaving, exhausted and shaking their head in disbelief. I had seen the same cycle play out repeatedly for years.
It took me many attempts to run away from home as a teenager and eventually I did escape.
Only then - as a young adult - did I get a chance to focus on myself. To rebuild my confidence. My self-esteem. Albeit slowly as I would often hear the childhood indoctrinated self-talk of doubt and limiting beliefs speak to me. My programming took a long time to reboot and update.
It cost me time. It cost me money. It cost me opportunity. It cost me loving relationships.
But eventually, 25 years on, I made it to the other side of the ‘river.’ I found myself helping countless people with their own issues - from teenagers to adults, from full-time Mums to high-powered business executives to even Therapists!
All with low self-esteem. Low confidence. Little or no sense of self-worth. Childhood trauma and programming still deeply ingrained. But the trouble with trying to get adults to change is that - it’s near-on impossible.
Often there is a lack of awareness. Or if awareness of the causes of low self-esteem exists, dealing with it is too hard, too painful, will open up old wounds, what’s the point, collateral damage, it will cause family conflict, etc.
I wondered, “I wish I had learned these things back when I was a kid.” Back then, I had no-one to speak to or confide in. No one had any coping mechanisms or tips to help me deal with the war-zone I lived in.
So I have created this newsletter for kids and for their parents. It’s my memo to you. Your secret code. Your empowering habits. Once you know them, no one can take them from you - ever. You can be your own superhero. You can save your own world.
We are going to talk every week about starting empowering habits now and dumping disempowering habits now.
This is your map - maybe an empowering ‘Google Map of Confidence’ - to guide you to future for which you will thank your younger self.
Until next week…I want you to remember you are loved, you are a unique, amazing creation and you can achieve anything you want. 💖
